BBC Radio 2 – Elbow Live At Abbey Road

January, 2009 – BBC

Elbow, an English alternative rock band, exclusively performed their album “The Seldom Seen Kid” for BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music with the BBC Concert Orchestra and London-based chamber choir Chantage at the Abbey Road Studios on 17 January 2009.

Elbow won the 2008 Mercury Music Prize for their fourth album, The Seldom Seen Kid, and since then commercial success is finally beginning to match Elbow’s critical acclaim and status among fans.

The unique performance of the album was seen by a select audience and was broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on the evening of Saturday 31st January. The show saw the band play new and exclusive versions of the songs from the album in order. They were joined (as on the album) by Richard Hawley for ‘The Fix’.

As the visual and Interactive TV designer on this project I was responsible for the creation and delivery of the required broadcast graphics for each platform with the number of streams available.

Elbow Live At Abbey Road was shown on the BBC ‘Red Button’ with Satellite and Cable viewers able press the red button to watch the unique performance. Highlights of the performance were then later shown again on the Red button service.

The design of all ITV products had to be consistent with the ‘BBC Radio 2 Live’ branding and complement the existing online graphics.
